Nick Cave: Soundsuits Downtown Thursday Night

May 15th, 2010

Photos from my phone of Thursday’s Downtown Art Walk. I love synchronous moments. Earlier that morning I had been paging through Nick Cave: Meet Me at the Center of the Earth while, scanning various receipts. I had never heard of him, captivating. A random email came in about the art walk downtown on Spring that night and I told myself to go. There I was walking downtown on Spring St. at 7:30 and I hear a lot of brass and drums. It was a little Nick Cave Soundsuit invasion. What fun. Here’s a bigger production on YouTube from the opening of the LA Art Show. Cave’s exhibition is until the 30th at the Fowler.

“The strange story repeated throughout human destiny of the one who loves & one who does not love.” Would it not be fantastic to have Sister Wendy show you around Rome?”Here’s where Bernini is so wonderful because he never ends in disaster.” Ah, tell me a story. “He was regarded as the bad boy of art. Although I don’t myself go along with this. Admit he did some dreadful things like kill someone over a game of tennis.” Tell us more Sister Wendy. “He’s awesome….he’s the colossus of art”

Shadow Lights

Wonderful light fixtures made in Italy discovered on my recent trip to New York. The designer, Mr.Sallvucci, was born in Foligno, Italy and trained in jewelry design. I am told he came to New York in the 80’s where he designed and produced jewelry and had much success in the fashion world. In 2003, he returned to Italy and went in a new direction coming up with these laser cut and hand shaped aluminum electric flowers. Fantastic. For more information contact:

Melrose Place

At lunch yesterday I took a walk on Melrose Place to look at all of the empty shops. Any young enterprising shop keep would certainly love to be here. It’s a walkable little street which is somewhat unheard of in Los Angeles. Even with it’s half a dozen empty store fronts,  it’s still rather pleasant for a meander.
